What Is mIRC?

mIRC is a popular Internet Relay Chat client used by millions of people, and thousands of organizations, to communicate, share, play and work with each other on IRC networks around the world. Serving the Internet community for over a decade, mIRC has evolved into a powerful, reliable and fun piece of technology.

You can download mIRC here.

http://www.mirc.com/index.html
If you wish to use this option to access the chats rather than entering the chatroom through the website, you can easily download and install the program before our next chat date. mIRC offers a one month free trial download and then there is just a one-time $25 donation fee for continuing use of the program. There are many pluses to learning how to use mIRC, including a logging capability option that is not available entering the #michaelmosaics chatroom directly through the website.

You can find further information and installation instructions here:

http://www.mirc.com/install.html

mIRC and IRC are used by a diverse and active community and there are a large number of websites dedicated to both. There are also forum boards and discussion groups where you can learn more about how to use all of the nifty features of the mIRC program as well. So you're not alone!

You can connect with the mIRC community here:

Configuring mIRC for using the Michael Mosaics Chatroom

Once you have downloaded and installed mIRC, there is one more step you will need to complete in order to use our chatroom. You will need to configure your mIRC settings for the same #michaelmosaics chatroom that the rest of the students are using for the chat. If your SERVER settings are different from those we use for our channeled chats, even if you type in /channel #michaelmosaics and the room you're in says you're in "michaelmosaics", there will not be any other students in the room with you if your SERVER settings are not configured properly.

We have provided a step by step instruction guide below to assist you in making sure your SERVER setting is configured properly. Please be sure to do this BEFORE the channeled chat date, if you are going to use the mIRC client to enter the chat. We will not be able to help you with it once the chat has begun.

These are the settings you will need to use to enter the chatroom for the channeled chats.

Server: irc.ircstorm.net
Port:
6667
Channel: #michaelmosaics

If you do not have time to do this before the scheduled chat and wish to enter the #michaelmosaics chatroom through mIRC, you can also type the following information into the chat window once you are connected through another server.

Simply type: /server irc.ircstorm.net into the text window and hit send. Then type /channel #michaelmosaics and hit send again. With any luck at all you should find yourself in the same chatroom with the rest of your fellow Michael student friends for the live channeled chat.

How To Add A New Server

1.  Go to "FILES" tab in the upper left corner of your screen and pull down the drop menu.

2.  Click on "SELECT SERVER." A new box will pop up that says "mIRC Options". Under that you will see the word "Category." Under "Category" you will see a number of file options.

3.  Click on the "Server" category, and then you will see a list of files titled "IRC Servers" above the files window. You will also see buttons for: ADD, EDIT, DELETE, SORT and SELECT.

4.
To ADD the new server:

  1. Hit the "Add" button. A popup will appear

  2. In the "Description" field, enter: IRC storm

  3. In the "IRC Server" field, enter: irc.ircstorm.net

  4. In the "Port(s)" field, make it say: 6667 (It will probably say 6667 already.)

    a. Do NOT try to fill in the "Group" or "Password" fields...just leave them blank.

    b. Hit the "Add" button. (The "Add" popup window will disappear.)

  1. Hit OK on the "mIRC Options" popup window. It will disappear.

  2. Click on the yellow lightening bolt on the top left corner of the main IRC window and it will connect you to the new server.
