Native American Artist of the Year Arvel Bird is a classically trained violinist and Native American flutist with a flawless talent and a passion to inspire audiences worldwide. He uses his mixed-blood Native American heritage to create a repertoire like none before. His music is so universally appealing that no matter what style of music you enjoy, from classical, New Age, folk, country, and Celtic, to tribal music, bluegrass, fusion, jazz, or blues, you'll find it all, and more, in Bird's work.
His charismatic performances go beyond the music. An expressive storyteller, he weaves Native American spirituality to connect his music with its meaning. The stories are compelling and give vision to the music. He speaks of Native American wisdom, covering subjects such as the sacredness of Mother earth, nature and the animals with whom we share this planet. Bird speaks of Native American history and traditions, which have relevance in today's high-tech world.
Bird's unique style has won him much acclaim in the music world. In 2009, he earned two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards for Best Producer and Best Instrumentalist for his Tribal Music Suite CD. In 2007, he was named Artist of the Year at the Native American Music Awards (Nammys). That same year he won Best Instrumental Album for the re-released Animal Totems at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards in Toronto.
